What is the Family Study Room?

A study room that will include children’s books and more so that parents or guardians can conduct their research while supervising their little ones at the library.

Who can use the Family Study Room? 

The Family Study Room is for current Virginia State University students who are accompanied by their child/children. 

How to access the Family Study Room?

The space is accessible by reservation only. The space is located in Room 224 on the 2nd floor of the Johnston Memorial Library building. Just like other Study Rooms, the room can be booked in one-hour or two-hour slots up to a week in advance. To reserve the room, visit library.vsu.edu or call the University Libraries Information Services Desk at 804-524-5043.


Family Study Room Usage Policies

  • Parents/guardians must have their child/children present to use the room.
  • Children may not be left alone in the Family Study Room at any time.
  • Parents/guardians are responsible for their children’s safety and behavior.
  • Never leave your child unattended. Library staff can neither supervise children nor be held responsible for their safety.
  • Library resources are not censored. Parents/guardians are responsible for monitoring what their child accesses.
  • The Family Study Room is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • The room has a capacity of four at any one time. 
  • Parents/guardians are expected to clean up after themselves and leave the room in good condition for the next occupants.  
  • Users must vacate the Family Study Space 30 minutes before the Library closes.
