Company and Industry Data: Federal Government Sites

This subject guide covers company and industry resources available at the Johnston Memorial Library, including full-text journals, magazine, and newspaper articles, and websites.

Federal Government Sources

Current Industrial Reports (Census Bureau). Measures industrial activity in important commodity areas such as textiles and apparel, chemicals, primary metals, computer and electronic components, industrial equipment, aerospace equipment, and consumer goods. Published monthly, quarterly, and annually.

EDGAR Database of Corporation Information (Securities and Exchange Commission). Provides 10-K, 20-F, proxy statements, annual reports, and other financial statements of public companies filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Industry at a Glance (Bureau of Labor Statistics). Contains profiles of the nine industry divisions, including statistical facts and links to additional information.

National Industrial Classification System (NAICS). Replaces the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) System. Provides industry definitions for Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Standard Industrial Classification allows the user to search the 1987 version SIC manual by keyword, to access descriptive information for a specified 4-digit SIC, and to examine the manual structure.
