This guide provides details on the University Libraries Spring 2021 Reopening Plan.

Phased Reopening

The University Libraries is reopening in alignment with the university's campus repopulation guidelines. We will be operating on a phased approach under Phase 3. The information in this libguide will be updated as services and collections access change.

 

 

Phase 1

Phase 1: Closed to public, Virtual access to resources & services, Staff work remotely

The University Libraries is closed to the VSU Community and the public with limited staff entering the building to handle mail services. All staff members will work remotely. Library staff will available to assist online users remotely through email at refdesk@vsu.edu, Ask-A-Librarian, Text-A-Librarian and phone request at (804.524.5582). Online services are available to support research and remote learning, including access to the library's online collections of eBooks, journal articles, streaming media and digitized resources. Face masks and physical distancing are required for the limited staff working in the building.

Phase 2

Phase 2: Closed to public, Limited library staff on-site, Quarantined materials processed

The University Libraries will be closed to the VSU Community and the public with limited staff entering the building to handle mail services. All other staff member will work remotely. Library staff will be available to assist online users remotely through email at refdesk@vsu.edu, Ask-A-Librarian, Text-A-Librarian and phone requests at (804.524.5582). Online services are available to support research and remote learning, including access to the library's online collection of eBooks, journal articles, streaming media and digitized resources. Face masks and social distancing are required for the limited staff working in the building.

Phase 3

Phase 3: Library open to VSU Community, with reduced staff and limited hours

Johnston Memorial Library will open to the VSU Community. Staff members will continue to work a hybrid schedule. Library staff will be available to assist users in person and online users remotely though email at refdesk@vsu.edu, Ask-A-Librarian, Text-A-Librarian and phone requests at (804.524.5582). Online services are available to support research and remote learning, including access to the library’s online collections of eBooks, journal articles, streaming media and digitized resources. Library users can reserve a computer workstation via LibCal. Interlibrary loan services are available to all who are requesting electronic materials. ILL print book requests can only be provided for students residing on campus or in the area near the university. Face masks and social distancing are required for all who enter the building. Lindsay-Montague Building will remain closed. Access to archival collections restricted to VSU students, faculty and staff by appointment only on Tuesdays from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM; and Thursdays from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Reference and research assistance will continue to be available via the online service tools.
