Phased Reopening

The University Libraries is reopening in alignment with the university's campus repopulation guidelines. We are operating on a phased approach and are currently in Phase 3. The information in this libguide will be updated as services and collections access change.

Phase 1

Phase 1: Closed to public, Virtual access to resources & services, Staff work remotely

The University Libraries is closed to the VSU Community and the public with limited staff entering the building to handle mail services. All staff members will work remotely. Library staff will be available to assist online users remotely though email at refdesk@vsu.eduAsk-A-LibrarianText-A-Librarian and phone requests at (804.524.5582). Online services are available to support research and remote learning, including access to the library’s online collections of eBooks, journal articles, streaming media and digitized resources. Face masks and social distancing are required for the limited staff working in the building.

Phase 2

Phase 2: Closed to public, Limited library staff on-site, Quarantined materials processed

The University Libraries will be closed to the VSU Community and the public with limited staff entering the building to handle mail services. All other staff members will work remotely. Library staff will be available to assist online users remotely though email at refdesk@vsu.eduAsk-A-LibrarianText-A-Librarian and phone requests at (804.524.5582). Online services are available to support research and remote learning, including access to the library’s online collections of eBooks, journal articles, streaming media and digitized resources. Face masks and social distancing are required for the limited staff working in the building.

 

Phase 3

 Phase 3: Library to reopen virtually to VSU Community, with reduced staff

The University Libraries will reopen virtually to the VSU Community  with extra precautions and reduced staff.

The Circulation Department with provide users with contact-free checkout of materials, wherein students and faculty will request materials needed for checkout and the library staff will retrieve the items. Users are encouraged to use the online service tools such as refdesk@vsu.edu, Ask-A-Librarian, Text-A-Librarian and phone requests (804.524.5582) to communicate with librarians and receive assistance. Library instruction will be available virtually by reservation only. Please contact Darnell Law at dlaw@vsu.edu or by phone at (804.524.5536) to make a reservation.

Out of an abundance of caution, the individual study rooms, group study rooms, training center, conference rooms, basement computer lab and library stacks will be closed to users. The Special Collections & Archives at Lindsay-Montague Hall will remain closed. Reference and research assistance will be available via the online service tools.
